Today, the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) handed over the keys of three homes to overjoyed new home-owners in Thabong, Welkom.

Last year, instead of funding a year-end function for its members of Council, the NHBRC decided to contribute to the building of three innovative building technology homes.

Each home boasts three bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, a living/dining room and a patio on the north side. The houses’ shape, orientation and window positions are designed to make optimal use of the sites on which they stand, and include energy efficiency interventions such as polystyrene filled walls and solar water heaters.

The size of the houses is 63m2 without the patio and 73m2 with the patio, and currently falls within affordable housing specifications.

“The NHBRC is a key institution in the delivery of quality homes. As such, we as Council would like to contribute to this by ensuring that we leave a lasting legacy to various communities by providing sustainable homes,” says NHBRC chairperson Advocate Brenda Madumise.
