For Immediate Release
Date: 03 December 2025

Johannesburg, South Africa – The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) in partnership with the Gordon’s Institute of Business Science (GIBS) will host the Women Empowerment Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday, 3 December 2025.

This milestone event marks a significant achievement in the transformation journey of the construction industry, with over five hundred women having graduated from the Women Empowerment Program since its inception. On 3 December, a further 122 women will receive their certificates, pushing the total number of graduates to over six hundred.

The Women Empowerment Program is a deliberate effort by the NHBRC and the Department of Human Settlements to promote women’s participation in the construction industry and address the historical imbalances in the sector. The program has been instrumental in empowering women to start and grow their own businesses, contributing to the growth and development of the industry and the economy at large.

As the NHBRC celebrates the achievements of these remarkable women, we are reminded of the stark reality of the challenges that women in South Africa face. Gender-based violence (GBV) is a scourge that affects women and children, and the construction industry is no exception. The inequalities that women face in the sector are a concrete challenge and a reminder that needs to be addressed.

The NHBRC and GIBS are committed to promoting women’s empowerment and addressing these inequalities through initiatives like the Women Empowerment Program.

The graduation ceremony is a testament to the commitment of the NHBRC and the Department of Human Settlements to promoting transformation and women’s empowerment in the construction industry.

Date: Wednesday, 3 December 2025
Time: 13h00 – 15h00
Venue: GIBS Business School, 26 Melville Rd, Illovo, Johannesburg
