The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) will be hosting three-day technical skills workshop for 50 military veterans in Nelson Mandela Bay starting from 20 to 23 July 2016 at the Soweto on Sea Multipurpose Centre in Port Elizabeth.

The purpose of the workshop is to equip military veterans with home building technical skills and compliance information in preparation for the roll out of the accredited training programme.
“The workshop comprises of theory and practical training where participants will be equipped with information in order to have an understanding of the home building regulation and technical standards, said NHBRC Provincial Manager Nombasa Ngoqo

This workshop will be facilitated by NHBRC technical training experts focusing on different type of soils, foundations, super structure, roof and finishing, health and safety and practical completion.

Once the participants have attended the workshop they will undergo formal training on building skills such as bricklaying, construction management, plastering and plumbing.
Ngoqo further indicated that the NHBRC will roll out training to other parts of the province in an effort to encourage military veterans to participate in the building of their own homes. “Thus far, the NHBRC has trained 30 military veterans based in the Chris Hani District on roofing, plumbing, plastering and carpentry,” she said.
This training is part of the NHBRC’s social transformation programme aimed at capacitating youth, women, military veterans and people with disabilities with technical skills so that they can actively participate in the home building industry.
