The NHBRC is currently piloting an online services platform for builder registration and renewal applications. This will enable home builders, contractors, and developers to submit their applications for registration and renewal of their membership online from the comfort of their homes or offices.
The first pilot commenced on 7 December 2021 in KwaZulu-Natal and will be followed by Gauteng and Mpumalanga in the new year before the platform can be rollout nationally.
NHBRC CEO Songezo Booi says that the organisation is committed to fulfilling its mandate as a building regulatory body through continual innovation of its processes.
“This is part of the broader NHBRC digital services strategic initiative that seeks to deliver services in an easier, simpler, and smarter format. Digitisation of our services will bring significant improvements to how the organisation serves its various stakeholders. It will enable us to provide efficient and secured ways of accessing services, thereby expanding our footprint,” said Booi.
The NHBRC has also introduced e-certificate with new features as part of the pilots. Features on the e-certificates issued to builders registering via the online services platform include:
- A QR code for validation of e-certificate
- A new registration number sequence for online channel
- A watermarked NHBRC logo.
NHBRC encourages stakeholders such as homeowners, potential home buyers, and financial institutions to exercise caution when dealing with contractors/ developers/builders by ensuring that they verify builder registration and legitimacy of the new certificates by visiting: https://www.eservices.nhbrc.org.za/Home/CertificateVerication
During the pilot phase, both the usual certificate and e-certificates will continue to be issued until the organisation rolls out the platform nationally. “We also intend to expand our offering in the next 18 to 24 months on this platform to include more of our products and services such as enrolments, inspections, and consumer complaints,” said Booi.
These pilots provide us with an opportunity to test the resilience of the system, to implement appropriate digital capabilities and receive feedback from the intended users of the system as we finalise the deployment of the online services platform.
